Found by Overwhelming, Reckless Grace and Love

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God. Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine. I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away. Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.”

These words from the worship song Reckless Love by Bethel Music reference our gospel text from last Sunday, Luke 15:1-10, where Jesus tells two parables about the reckless love and grace of God who, like a shepherd, leaves ninety-nine sheep to find one who is lost, and like a woman who has lost 1 of 10 coins searches ceaselessly until the lost is found.

You, sisters and brothers, are found.

This same overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God stops at nothing to let you know that you are a beloved child of God and that you are a recipient of God’s gracious, abundant, everlasting life.

Perhaps you’ve been feeling lost, untethered, floating through the chaos of life lately. Maybe you’re so lost you haven’t realized that you’re lost yet, like the 99 sheep left in the wilderness while the shepherd heads off, and we haven’t realized that we’re meant to follow because our center – Christ – is on the move.

If you are feeling a little more lost than found these days, I’d encourage you to engage in the faith practices that most connect you with God – prayer, scripture study, worship, song, or other practices that help you connect with the presence of God. You can dive into some of these practices with Spirit in the Hills:

  • Mid-week Bible Study Thursdays at 11 AM
  • Men’s Discipleship Group and Women’s Care and Share
  • Sunday School for adults and for kids at 9 AM on Sundays
  • Sing with the choir, practice Wednesdays at 7 PM

Friends, we are centered in Christ, who finds us again and again and wraps us in overwhelming grace and love. Jesus is alive and on the move – so we follow along and are on the move, too. The love of God in Christ is for the whole world, each of us is unique, all of us are gathered by God’s grace and centered in the living Christ.
