A Triumphal Entry For All To See (Palm & Garment Sunday)

A Triumphal Entry For All To See (Palm & Garment Sunday)

As Jesus enters Jerusalem on the back of an unridden colt, the crowds shout, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” and everyone who sees what is going on knows that Jesus has trouble coming his way.

We begin Holy Week reflecting on how this is a different kind of royal parade for a different kind of king who ushers in God’s reign of love, peace, forgiveness, and life for all.

The energy is building. The movement is at its peak. Resistance is mounting.

By the end of the week, Jesus’ peaceful and nonviolent way will be met with the violent killing of the Prince of Peace.

And yet, death will not have the last word. Life will.

For the love of God in Christ is unstoppable. And we have seen what God has done and is doing. So we join our voices in proclaiming, “Hosanna!”

Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!

Listen to the full sermon. Also, know that more than 250 clothing items were donated this Sunday. They were laid down during the procession. After worship, they were sent to help men experiencing homelessness.
