What is worship like at Spirit in the Hills?
- You’ll find a joyful and welcoming community passionate about sharing the overwhelming love of God and how we have experienced it at work in our lives.
- Our worship is heartfelt, inspiring, anchored in tradition while remaining familiar and fresh.
- Worship involves the whole family and there are opportunities for people of every age to be fully involved.
- An invitation to hang around after worship and truly meet others who worship here – usually over a light snack or the occasional potluck celebration.
What should I wear?
This is a frequent question when its our first time attending a church.
The short answer is whatever you feel comfortable wearing while worshiping God. Most Sunday’s you’ll see some folks wearing shorts and short sleeves (we are by the lake after all) and some in business casual while most will be somewhere in between. We believe that being present together in worship is far more important than what anyone wears to worship on Sunday mornings. Come as you are. We really mean it.
Children in worship
At Spirit in the Hills, we believe that worship is for all of God’s children. Children of every age are welcome to fully participate in worship, and parents with young children can feel comfortable knowing that the sounds of children are part of our joyful praise.
Communion?
Every week in worship we come to God’s table and participate in Holy Communion (also called The Eucharist). Recognized as the meal of the baptized and something the church has shared throughout time and across the world, we share bread and wine (gluten-free and non-alcoholic options are offered) and trust that God is fully and really present in the meal and among us. Jesus is the host, so all are invited to come, taste, and see that the Lord is good.
Sunday School? (aka Faith Formation Gatherings)
We have Sunday morning opportunities for kids and adults to learn and grow in faith and love. We all begin together at the front of the worship space at 9am.
Anything Else?
- Spirit in the Hills is a community that is sacred but not stuffy. We are casual but caring, we are contemplative, and we don’t shy away from challenging one another to live out God’s extraordinary love.
- There is a place for you here. That means the whole you – your joys and struggles, your doubts and questions, your gifts and talents, every part of your identity and personality.
- Whether you’ve never been to church, only occasionally visited one, or you have been the president of a congregation, there is a place for you at Spirit in the Hills and you have a perspective and unique gifts that will make us better.
- We are young, old, middle-aged, gay, straight, single, married, partnered, republican, democrat, independent from different backgrounds and cultures. We are lifelong Lutherans, former something elses, seekers, questioners… in other words, we are real people, just like you.
