Jesus responds to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” by telling a story that illustrates what it means to be a neighbor to those nearby and far off, to those different from us, to those who are our enemies, to those from other countries, even as it costs us socially and economically.
As Spirit in the Hills moves toward purchasing property and planting deep roots in this neighborhood, let us consider who our neighbor is. As Christ makes clear, we cannot limit neighborhood.
May we also concern ourselves with what it means to be a neighbor as we see the example of the Good Samaritan and others and hear Christ’s call to “Go and do likewise.”
Realizing that we do not justify ourselves but are justified by God in Christ, the question shifts from “Who is my neighbor?” to “How to be a neighbor?”
