Advent and Christmas

Advent and Christmas

What is Advent?

Advent is the church season that takes place the four weeks leading up to Christmas. It is a time to pause and re-center in the midst of the busy-ness of life. It is a season of hope, peace, joy, and love and we prepare for the new things God is doing in the world to increase life and love forever and for all. The color of the season is blue, the color of the pre-dawn sky, a color that signifies our hopeful waiting and joyful expectation during Advent. We invite you to slow down, and join us in this season of waiting and watching.

Opportunites to Worship

Sundays at 10 AM we gather online and in-person for a time of worship, prayer, scripture, song, and community. You can join us in our sanctuary or live on our website, on Facebook, or on YouTube.
Make sure you are signed up for our email list to get a full worship liturgy in your inbox on Sunday mornings.
As always, everyone is welcome, so invite your friends, family, and neighbors!

Saturdays at 5:00 PM
Community Campfire Songs & Prayers
Join Lake Travis Community Campfires, Saturdays at sunset in December…to sing, pray, and relax together Saturdays, 5 pm, Dec. 4, 11, 18. The folk duo Young and Rusty will provide musical accompaniment for a brief service and storytelling, and afterwards an open mic will allow anyone to sing, play an instrument, or read a poem. Put on your sturdy shoes, warm clothes, and open heart, then bring yourself, your family, your neighbor, your instrument, or just your prayers.

Monday, December 20 at 6 PM: Quiet Christmas
We know that Christmas can be a difficult time of year for many, and that many of us are grieving this year. It can be hard to connect with God and one another among the loud, boisterous nature of this “merry and bright” season when it doesn’t feel like “the most wonderful time of the year.” Our Quiet Christmas worship service is an opportunity for a calmer, quieter way to worship and give thanks for God who comes into the world in the midst of the dark and chaos, and who gives comfort to those who mourn.
This worship service will take place in person in our sanctuary.

Resources for Growing in Faith at Home

More About our Theme, Close to Home

Throughout the season of Advent, we’re using the theme “Close to Home.” When something hits close to home, it affects us deeply. During the Advent and Christmas season, we journey through scriptures and rituals that are tender, heavy with emotion, and vulnerable. We carry
the memories and truths of this season close to our hearts. Close to Home acknowledges the “already but not yet” tension of our faith: Emmanuel is with us, and yet, God’s promised day—our everlasting home—is not fully realized. It names our deep longing for God to come close to us.
